Computer Vision Syndrome
Frequent computer use is a way of life. Everything has gone digital from our phones, PDA’s, portable computers, desktop computers, video games…you get the picture. With online sources such as Netflix and Hulu, what was viewed on a movie or television screen is now being seen on our computers. Homework that once had our children going to the library is now all conducted right through the internet. We don’t go out to see our friend when we can keep in the loop with social networking on our computers. Even our daily workout routines that used to take us outside, on the court or on the course is now taught through gaming systems such as Wii Fit and Nintendo sports. With the increased viewing at an intermediate distance, an increasing number of patients are reporting symptoms of eye fatigue, tiredness, headaches, blurred vision, dry or watery eyes, neck and shoulder pain and decreased productivity at work or school. This is diagnosed as Computer Vision Syndrome or CVS.
CVS can be combated with the use of prescribed glasses designed for your specific computer use. In addition to a routine exam a new exam is performed for a proper diagnosis.
To learn more about CVS, you can visit the American Optometric Association website or schedule your appointment with Dr. Rabbani today!
